Rum was long a forgotten spirit, yet its influence on historical developments was significant. Not only slave traders, pirates and smugglers lived on rum, but also artists, blend masters and bar­keepers. Once regarded as a drink for the lower classes, in recent years it has become more widely accepted and has even developed something of a cult following.
